My Current Read

I am reading Thomas Friedman's book, Hot, Flat, and Crowded. It is terrrifying. Seriously. I haven't been so scared in a long time. I suppose (hope) once I get through all the staggering and chilling statistics he will propose some solutions. I am hoping he will argue that their is hope. But I am too scared to keep reading. We are hosed. I guess we knew the end was nigh, but really, could global warming be the end? I mean, we are told in scriptures that greed and love of money and things was going to lead to destruction. Could this be not only in a spiritual sense, but a literal sense? Because our love of stuff is killing the planet. I don't know how we buck the trend. And even if the USA bucks the consumption trend (which seems doubtful), can Qatar, China, India, Mexico, Brazil...i.e. the now emerged, formerly emerging economies buck it? Everyone in the world wants to live like we do. If that happens the end will certainly be nigh.
I was very pleased to hear that Obama has read the book and took it very seriously. We MUST change course. It is so grim. I can't think about it.

One of my favorite things about Obama's promises is that he sees changing our fossil fuel economy to a clean fuel one as part of the strategy to restore the economy and not as a separate issue. I think we are going to see big changes.

I also think that if America can retain its leading position in the world through ingenuity and innovation in creating the technology and techniques of the new energy economy, then the rest of the world (emerging or other) will only follow our lead. This is an exciting opportunity to maintain world influence through providing good things and not just through having bigger guns.

Keep reading to the end. I haven't read it, but I seriously suspect that it will get much better.

Oops
I agree that we are hosed, but not because of "global warming" (what a crock btw) we are hosed because of President Obama's economic plan. (if you can even call it that) Heck of a change ya'll were hoping for.
